Is it worth the extra 500 bucks??? (guitar related)?

right now i have a epi les paul standard (costed me bout 600 CND)
i have the reciept so i can still refund it
anyways i saw that the Epi les paul SLASH sig is coming out tomorrow....can i was excited because i love slash but it costs 1100 ...the differences that i saw are as follows:

-slash (duh)....the looks is beautiful (duno the worth)
-hardcase and his new book and some picks (worth bout 90)
- Seymore Duncan Alnico II Pro humbuckers (probably worth like 100 a piece)
-vintage tulip tuners (which are better than grover i heard..but not sure)
-lock tone stopbar and tune-o-matic (probably better)
-nickel hardwear (probably better than chrome)
-longer tenons neck joint..aparently 20% more sustain
-bigger frets (which i like)

sounds good right?....but is it worth 500$ +tax more?

My perspective is that I don't buy a guitar for collectibility - I buy a guitar to play. For me, the music comes first. So, if your guitar right now plays well and sounds good, why bother upgrading? It's not like an Epi Standard sounds bad or anything (if properly set up, intonated, etc). If you haven't already, you could put those same pickups on your guitar for less than 300 US (you'll have to do the conversion, I try to ignore the fact that the dollar is sinking fast).

So, I guess it comes down to this - if you have the money, if the Epi Slash plays better, if the Epi Slash sounds better, and you were planning on upgrading the Epi Standard at some point anyways, then I would seriously think about it.

However, if you can't afford it (and I can't stress this enough), or aren't going to be able to take care of it the way it deserves (proper care, proper maintenance, not leaving it in the garage, not smashing it or defacing it) then don't do it. 1100 is a lot of change, US or Canadian. There are a lot of guitars you can buy with that kind've money - I think you can even get a Gibson for that much. Or, alternatively, you can spend that extra change and put it towards your "really good tube amp" fund.

I dunno. I'm a little wary of buying anything with an artist's name on it if it's not what that artist uses. Endorsements don't mean anything to me - companies use famous artists to promote products that aren't nearly as good as they claim to be, just for an excuse to mark them up. This isn't always the case (Steve Vai's Carvin amp, Kerry King's Marshall model come to mind) but it happens enough to warrant my skepticism.

Good luck, whichever way you decide. I would really want you to play the guitar thoroughly before you buy it, though, don't buy it sight unseen. If you can get them to set it up and intonate it properly for you (guitars rarely come properly set up from the factory) then all the better.
