Guitar Straps - Accessorize in Style

Guitar straps are made to go over the shoulder and across the chest to assist the guitarist. The two primary types of guitars that use straps are acoustic and electric. These straps, most frequently made from leather or synthetic leather, are also created using nylon mesh, polypropylene and various organic materials. Unless they have been custom made, they are adjustable, usually between 37 and 52 inches to accommodate the length needed for the player. The adjustment method varies from adjusting like the straps on a backpack, to a loop through method with the adjustment slats hidden beneath a sliding shoulder pad.

If you are just beginning to search for guitar straps, you should know that there are several methods for attaching the strap to the guitar. There are various types of clips, ties and tabs. There are three methods predominantly used. It can be tied to the headstock, behind the nut or by a strap button that has been installed. If the strap will be tied to the headstock, tie a square knot rather than a bow, which will more easily come untied.  If you are installing a strap button, it is usually placed on the side of the heel or bottom of the neck heel.

When shopping for guitar straps, there are three tips to keep in mind. Make sure the strap can be adjusted to meet your body and instrument size, for a customized fit. Choose a strap that is comfortable and does not cut into your shoulder. The strap should be well-padded, as it can be difficult to wear for long periods of time. Try on several types to ensure comfort and fit. If you are a beginner make sure the back of the strap is rough rather than smooth. This will prevent it from sliding on your shoulder.

Though most guitar straps are between two and a half and four inches wide, straps as narrow as one and a half inches are available. This is a very personal choice for the artist, reflecting their unique style and personality. Leather straps can be etched, burnished, or jewel-studded.  There is a wide range of prices, suitable for almost every budget. Whether you play an acoustic or electric guitar, you will find a variety of strap colors in high quality materials.

What's the strap on the back of my tuxedo shirt for?

On the back of my tuxedo shirt, i have this one strap sticking out on the bottom like a tail with two button holes on it. I'm totally confused about why its there and what exactly is this strap supposed to do? Thanks a lot!

Better evening shirts have a tab that attaches to the trousers to stop the shirt-front from pulling up when you sit or move. Not sure why it would be in back, though.
