How do I take off a door knob that has no visible screws, no spring, no detent?

I have a newer doorknob that's loose and needs to be tightened but there are no external screws, no springs, no detent (the little metal spring everyone says to press), and I cannot seem to turn either the knobs or the faceplates in any direction to loosen it. Does anyone have a suggestion when there is no apparant "releasing" mechanism?

Hold the adjoining knob on the other side of the door tightly and turn the first knob anti-clockwise. Just a suggestion! Good luck!
