What do you think of blues guitar with a humbucker?
Almost all the blues guitarists I watch live use Telecasters, Stratocasters, or something similar that has singlecoil pick ups. A humbucker guitar would be unsual but would be more unique and original in blues. It would have higher output (easily controlled on guitar or amp) and a different tone.
I have seen a few photos/videos of the Stratacaster masters like Clapton, Hendrix and Dave Gilmour using Gibsons, plus Jimmy Page used one.
I'm not really looking for a semi-hollowbody electric, which is more old blues from like 40s and 50s.
Humbuckers work great for playing Blues. It all depends on what sound your looking for.
I play a Ibanez AS73 Semi-Hollow Bodies with humbuckers that sounds great. I can play Blues/Jazz/Rcok with this guitar. It really play the Blues well. Also have a Fender Strat that I play when I going after the Clapton/RSV sound.
Listen to the Layla album by Derick and the Domino's. The cover of a Little Walter song called 'Key to the Highway' will give you a good example of single and humbucker pickups as Dewayne and Eric are trading leads throughout the jam.
