And BTW ... what's better an audio interface OR a guitar effects pedal device with an USB port on it (like those now ones) in order to record.

An audio interface is a better option. You'll be able to do more with it in the future. The best way to record your guitar would be to record the clean signal direct. Then you'll have a better noise to signal ratio and be able to modify your sound how ever you like. You can then re-record the clean sound back through your pedal and try all sorts of effects. If you're thinking of ever getting involved with Protools, you can prolly get the Mbox mini and use it with Cubase and still have the option to use protools in the future. As opposed to buying a 2nd interface down the line.
