Acoustic models generally are made of nice hardwoods and some are made with plastic bowl type backing. They can have models with steel strings and some can have nylon strings and are also referred to as classical guitars or spanish guitars or acoustic guitars with nylon strings.

These all have a projected sound coming out of the body of the guitar that will be easy to hear without the use of an electric amplifier. Some people prefer to learn on these instruments as it only requires the purchase of the one item. They come in all different sizes, some with smaller bodies, curved backs, medium to large bodies. This size and shapes do have affect on the overall sound that comes out of the instrument as well as the shape of these guitars. But for the beginner learning to play guitar these things won't matter as much as how shiny the finish may be or the wild paint decals and the like as that is why they make some pretty bold colors too on a lot of guitars.

The other choice for the person looking to buy a guitar is to shop around for an electric model. These models are equipped with electronic pickups to amplify the sound of the instrument and come in solid body, semi-hollow, and hollow body types. Some have some kind of sound holes in them which does allow you to play or practice the instrument but to fully take advantage of the guitar and the electronics in the guitar they usually require the addition of an electric amplifier too. There are many starter packages out there with guitar and amplifier and at really good prices and the quality is quite good considering there are very expensive instruments out there made for the professional in mind.

There are many places to shop for these acoustic and electric guitars, first starting with your local music dealers in your vicinity. There they may have many types of acoustic and electric models to try out. Some have separate sound rooms where you can go and make noise and try it out to see if you like it. This is an advantage I would first take as it lets the person who wants to play the guitar get a good feel for the neck as well as if the guitar body fits he or she. Believe it or not if it is not comfortable for the player they are less likely to continue using or learning the instrument. This is a very important step in the process of learning to play the guitar and I highly recommend shopping and purchasing an instrument that you have had the chance to hold and play.

Putting decals/stickers on an acoustic guitar?

I want to put decals/ stickers on my Fender Starcaster acoustic guitar but I don't know if it will change the tone or quality of the sound. I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me.

Do not put stickers on your guitar. An acoustic guitar makes sound from the top vibrating. Anything you might do to the top to dampen those vibrations - like putting stickers on it, for example - will dramatically hurt the sound. Plus, when you go to peel them off there's a good chance that you'll damage the finish.
